BSN at College of Nursing NICH: A Success Story Needed to be Replicated in Public Sector Nursing Institutes
By: Shabir Hussain
The College of Nursing, National Institute of Child Health (CON-NICH), has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first institute under Health Department Sindh to complete 04-Yr Nursing Degree Program with thumping success. Not only did it complete the course on time, but also excelled in education, training, and professionalism at par with other best nursing colleges of Sindh.
It is noteworthy that in 2019, when PNMC,the Federal and Provincial Governments phased out the Three-Year General Nursing Diploma and introduced a four-year degree program, all colleges under provincial government management across the country lagged behind by one year without induction. However, Nursing College NICH stood out, achieving the first admission in year 2020.
Their first batch of BSN had achieved a 100% passing rate and commenced one year internship. They are now conducting Evidence-Based seminars on final research papers of the second batch of Semester VIII. The college's praiseworthy Principal, Ms. Shabana Wazir, and her faculty have not only completed the course on time but have also brought the educational and training standards of nursing students at par with renowned institutions.
A week-long workshop and symposium series is being conducted, where academia from public and private institutions are evaluating research papers of students. Eminent scholars and professionals from the healthcare industry are invited as judges and jury members.
At the seminar held yesterday, four students presented their scholarly papers on "Nursing 360°: Perspective on Image & Status Across Borders." The papers were evaluated by JSMU Nursing College's Vice Principal, Ms. Rozina, and NICH's Consultant, Dr. Shabana Sheikh.
Chief Guest, Shabir Hussain Jhatial, addressed the gathering, stating that CON-NICH has earned a reputable position among the best institutions in Karachi. He emphasized that the college's excellence is a testament to the dedication of its faculty and students. As the former Director of Nursing, Sindh, he acknowledged that all public sector nursing colleges can follow CON-NICH as a role model to improve their standards.
The ceremony concluded with Principal Ms. Shabana Wazir Solangi presenting momentos to the guests and distributing certificates among the students. The group photos was taken with the guests, students, and faculty to commemorate the occasion.
