Fact Check: Nursing and Paramedic Councils are NOT merging Globally

A post circulating on social media in Pakistan claims that several countries have a single regulatory body for nurses, midwives, and paramedics. However, the reality is more complex and varies from country to country. Many countries maintain separate councils for these professions to safeguard their professional identities and uphold high standards of care.     In most cases, separate regulatory bodies ensure that each profession receives the specialized attention it needs, enhancing the overall quality of healthcare.  Merging these bodies could dilute professional standards, as the requirements and scopes of practice differ greatly between these fields.     Examples:   Australia   Although the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) oversees several health boards, nursing, midwifery, and paramedics are regulated by distinct boards—the Nursing and Midwifery Board and the Paramedicine Board—maintaining their autonomy within the national framework.
