Strategic Consultative Process Strengthening Midwifery in Sindh

On the initiatives taken by FIC "the Federal Govt MoNHS&C (FIC) & "Health Dept Govt of Sindh" in liaison with "UNFPA" & "MAP" held a consultative meeting on "Strengthening Midwifery in Sindh" on war footings.

Director Nursing "Ms. Najma Mangi & Deputy DNS Ms Fakhrunissa " from the Health Department and the top nursing leadership including National and Global Stakeholders; "UNFPA" consultant "Dr. Zahra Ladhani" , Midwifery Association "MAP President Dr. "Rafat" Jan" participated along with their delegations.

In connection with earlier meetings held "across provinces" and at "Federal Level" some feasible proposals were floated and agreed upon by the participants to move foward to central body through provnces.

Besides many agreement reached in earlier sessions following a few were deliberated:

1. For the strengthening of the midwifery sector, it was recommended to establish separate "Directorate of Midwifery" in every province to give midwifery its own identity and a "strategic push" for effective governance.

2.Serious concerns were expressed over the utility of "Community Midwifery Program" in the province. The "MAP President" presented another proposal to make the program effective rather than to abondon this outrightly.

3. "Director Nursing Ms. Najma pledged " to submit to the Health "Department" the agendas agreed in the consecutive Consultative Meetings in Sindh.

New Nurses Uniform by Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (January 2024)

The Pakistan Nursing & Midwifery Council (PNMC) has introduced a new uniform dress code for nurses working in clinical settings across the country. The announcement, in an official letter from the PNMC dated January 31, 2024, stated guidance about professional attire of nursing staff in Pakistan.
