NICH Nursing College: Blazing a Trail of Excellence in Sindh’s Public Sector Nursing Education

The remarkable arrangements of three seminars in a single day by the final year BSN students, with participation from the Director of Nursing Sindh, PN&MC elected member, NICVD's Clinician and renowned nursing scholars, validated the college's journey to excellence .

According to details at College of Nursing (NICH), located in the heart of Karachi, the 8th-semester students Ms. Alisha, Shazia, and Sefi Amanuel, conducted a seminar titled “Innovation in Nursing: Enhancing Care Through Artificial Intelligence.” The seminar highlighted the importance of understanding AI's applications and its projected impact on nursing care. Students showcased the integration of AI with digital equipment in providing improved nursing services at their home care settings. The session was supervised by Mr. Aijaz Ali Kaleri, member of the Pakistan Nursing Council, and Altaf Manhas, a renowned clinician nurse and curricula expert. The jury panel included senior nursing faculty Noumi Waqas from Korangi Nursing College and OT In-Charge of JPMC's Shehzad Samuel - reknowned Nursing Schlard from public sector

Another group of students, Maha, Anila, and Sadaf Sanaullah, organized “Accountability and Quality Standards in Nursing Care” seminar on same day in the majestic auditorium of NICH. This seminar focused on maintaining quality standards and accountability during nursing interventions emphasizing proper documentation and record-keeping to protect both care receiver and providers. This was supervised by Director of Nursing Najma Mangi and Chief Pharmacist Dr. Saira Iram Aijaz from NICH. The jury's duties were performed by Noumi Waqas and Shehzad Samuel as in preceding seminars.

The third seminar, “Coordination in Nursing Care: The Role of Nurses in Telemedicine,” was conducted by students Ms.Andrews, Suman, and Tehmina. They elaborated on the growing importance of online nursing interventions and their scope, equating them to medical professions. Data-backed presentations shed light on the rising trend of telemedicine in developed countries.

This session was supervised by nursing scholar Raja Khatri and Dr. Siraj-un-Nisa, Head of the Neonatal Department NICH with evaluation duties performed by Mr.Waqas and Mr.Samuel.

It is noteworthy that all these seminars are part of a graded academic process regulated by the highly competent faculty, including Mr. Eshwar Das and Mr. Farooq. The students effectively utilized multimedia, national and international literature, and videos in their presentations.

The College's Principal, Ms. Shabana Wazir, expressed gratitude to NICH Executive Director Prof. Dr. Nasir Hussain Saddal, Professor Mohsina Ibrahim, Nursing faculty Mr. Farooq, Eshwar Das, and various departmental heads NICH and nursing leaders across the board for their continuous encouragement and support. She acknowledged that having prominent educators and leaders visit the college is a matter of pride for us and motivation for our students.

While addressing the audience, Director of Nursing Sindh, Najma Mangi, emphasized the Directorate’s pride in considering NICH College an integral part of its network. Mr. Ejaz Kaleri praised the college's principal and faculty, stating that they had elevated the institution’s reputation. NICVD’s nursing scholar Altaf Manhas regarded the students’ presentations and style as the beginning of a new era in nursing. He appreciated the cooperation and shared administration between NICH and NICVD, which are not only geographically close but also strategically aligned.

Other speakers, including Raja Khatri and academic leaders from the medical and pharmaceutical fields, also commended the efforts of students faculty and Principal Ms. Shabana Wazir for her excellent networking and team building skills.

At the end of the event, certificates were distributed among the successful students by the esteemed guests, jury members, faculty, and the principal. The ceremony concluded with group photos featuring the guest scholars.

New Nurses Uniform by Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (January 2024)

The Pakistan Nursing & Midwifery Council (PNMC) has introduced a new uniform dress code for nurses working in clinical settings across the country. The announcement, in an official letter from the PNMC dated January 31, 2024, stated guidance about professional attire of nursing staff in Pakistan.
