111 Head Nurses and 800 Change Nurses Vacancies Announced

We have some important news to share from the Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department (SHC&ME) Punjab. A significant number of job positions have just been unveiled for both Charge Nurses (BS-16) and Head Nurses (BS-17) across various prominent hospitals and institutes in Pakistan.

At first glance, this may seem like a golden opportunity for our nursing community. However, it is crucial to delve deeper into the details before deciding to embark on the application process. In this blog post, we aim to shed light on both the positive and potentially less appealing aspects of this announcement.

Good News First

A total of 111 positions for Head Nurses (BS-17) and a massive 800 positions for Charge Nurses (BS-16) have been declared vacant. The institutes calling for these applications include some of the country's most prestigious healthcare establishments, and here are the numbers per institution:

  1. Institute of Ophthalmology & Allied Vision Sciences, Nishtar Multan: 1 Head Nurse and 6 Charge Nurses.
  2. Sahiwal Teaching Hospital, Sahiwal: 20 Head Nurses and 159 Charge Nurses.
  3. Institute of Urology & Transplantation, Rawalpindi: 22 Head Nurses and 15 Charge Nurses.
  4. Sardar Fateh Muhammad Khan Buzdar Institute of Cardiology, D.G Khan: 14 Head Nurses and 50 Charge Nurses.
  5. Ch. Pervaiz Elahi Institute of Cardiology, Multan: No Head Nurse position, but 27 Charge Nurses.
  6. GMC Teaching Hospital, Gujranwala: 24 Head Nurses and 214 Charge Nurses.
  7. Nishtar Medical University, Multan (Tertiary Care Hospital, Nishtar-II, Multan): 30 Head Nurses and 329 Charge Nurses.

Not-so-good News

The main point is that these jobs are on an adhoc basis, meaning they are temporary for a year or until a permanent replacement arrives. This might not provide the job security most individuals seek, particularly when we consider that other countries offer more long-term opportunities with better pay, improved work conditions, and additional benefits.

Moreover, the pay scale for these jobs, in some cases, doesn't seem to reflect the qualifications. For instance, even with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, the offered position is at BPS 16 level, not the expected BPS 17. This discrepancy could potentially be discouraging as it might not align with the level of education and expertise a nurse possesses.

Despite these challenges, these opportunities can serve as a valuable experience, particularly for those early in their nursing careers. They also highlight the demand for nurses in Pakistan, underlining the significance of our nursing community's work.

So, if you're contemplating applying for these jobs, we advise you to consider all the points we've mentioned thoroughly. We hope this overview will guide you in your decision-making process, and we continue to advocate for better conditions and recognition for our dedicated nurses.
