Empowering Nursing Professionals: The Inspiring Journey of Sobia Idrees

The remarkable accomplishments of professionals who make significant strides in their sector are truly deserving of recognition and celebration. One such inspirational figure is Sobia Idrees, a Pakistani nurse who has not only excelled in her career but also emerging as an internationally renowned educator. In this blog post, we will explore Sobia's incredible journey and her numerous achievements that have garnered her accolades and praise from all around the globe.

As a nursing student at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad (PIMS), Sobia Idrees' career in nursing began. She was able to advance fast through the ranks, first becoming a charge nurse at PIMS and then becoming a nursing educator thanks to her unrelenting commitment to her career. Sobia pursued and successfully completed her Master of Science in Nursing  (MSN) degree with excellent honours from the prestigious Aga Khan University School of Nursing and Midwifery (AKUSONAM), realising the enormous worth of continuing education in her field.

Sobia obtained the position of Head Nurse at the Federal Government Hospital after placing first in a national-level competitive exam and interview. This demonstrated her skill and love for nursing. This incredible accomplishment was made possible by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC).  

Sobia's passion for nursing education brought her to Canada, where she is now enrolled in the University of Alberta's PhD in Nursing programme. She won the Graduate Student Teaching Award at the University of Alberta for her outstanding work as a graduate student, demonstrating her capacity to mentor and instruct the upcoming generation of nursing professionals.

In recognition of her ongoing commitment to the field, Sobia was awarded a 2023 International World Fellowship from Delta Kappa Gamma, a prestigious honor that further solidifies her status as a leader and role model in the nursing community. The society is eager to connect her with members from chapters in Alberta, Canada. 

Sobia Idrees has received various accolades and honours on a global scale for her outstanding contributions to the nursing profession. For her highly regarded and meritorious contributions during the Hajj Medical Mission, where she provided essential treatment to thousands of pilgrims, she was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation in 2019. The fact that Sobia was appointed a Nightingale Northern Ireland Global Associate is evidence of her outstanding performance and leadership, as well as of her expanding stature in the nursing profession.

Sobia has actively taken part in regional and international campaigns to advance the prestige of nursing and promote the role of nurses in health policymaking. She was nominated as the Voice of Pakistan Nurses and Midwives during the launch of the Pakistan chapter of Nursing Now in 2019, and she proudly represented Pakistani Nurses at a ceremony held at the President House.

This esteemed nomination paved the way for her invitation to represent Pakistani voices at the Global Health Conference held in Liverpool, England in May 2019.

Along with her scholastic and professional successes, Sobia Idrees has had an amazing career that includes her substantial contributions to the COVID-19 epidemic. Sobia demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities while serving as the emergency department's chief nurse at Federal Government Hospital. She oversaw a team of more than 50 staff members, including nursing and non-nursing personnel, and attended to the requirements of suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients.  Sobia got a Letter of Appreciation from the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) in honour of her unrelenting dedication and commitment to battling the epidemic. For their tenacious efforts throughout the 100 days of the Nation's Resolve against COVID-19, Sobia and her colleagues received praise.

Sobia Idrees's incredible journey from a dedicated student nurse in Pakistan to an esteemed educator in Canada serves as an inspiration for aspiring nursing professionals worldwide.
