2024 Admissions Guide: Shifa College of Nursing Programs and Eligibility Criteria



Shifa College of Nursing, a renowned constituent college of Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU) in Islamabad, is now accepting applications for the Spring 2024 session. Offering a range of nursing programs, Shifa College of Nursing provides an outstanding educational experience for aspiring healthcare professionals. PhD in Nursing Program (Minimum 3 years Maximum 8 years)



Eligibility Criteria for PhD 

To be considered for the PhD in Nursing program at Shifa College of Nursing, potential candidates must meet the following prerequisites:
  • The candidate must have completed a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or an MSN equivalent program for foreign students, such as the Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Candidates should have achieved a minimum CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 in a semester system or a minimum first division in the annual system from Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC)-recognized institutes/universities.
  • It is a requirement that the candidate has taken Nursing Theories and Biostatistics courses in their MSN program. Students who have not completed these subjects can consult the Student Affairs Office for advice.
  • Candidates should have achieved an IELTS-Academic minimum score of 6.5, with no component scoring less than 6.
  • Successful completion of the College's entry test and interview is a must for admission.

Application Requirements for PhD


In addition to meeting the eligibility criteria, applicants need to submit the following documents and fulfill the requirements as part of the application process:
  • A completed online application form.
  • A statement of interest, outlining the rationale for seeking admission into the PhD program.
  • A description of a proposed research project for the PhD program (up to 2000 words).
  • Attested copies of academic and professional degrees and certificates.
  • An equivalence certificate for 18 years of education from the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
  • A valid registration from the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) or its equivalent for foreign applicants.
  • Two reference letters (one from the immediate supervisor and one from the last academic institution attended).
  • A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the current employer, if applicable.

  • Entrance Test: Monday, 27th November 2023

  • Commencement of classes: Monday, 4th March 2024


Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with Sub-Specialty in Critical Care & Education (Program Duration: 2 Years)



Eligibility Criteria for MSN


For admission into the MSN program at Shifa College of Nursing, applicants must meet one of the two sets of eligibility criteria:

Criteria One

  • Applicants must have a 3-year General Nursing Diploma.
  • They should have a 1-year Midwifery Diploma or a Post Basic Specialty Diploma.
  • They should have completed a 2-year Post-RN BSN Degree Program.
  • Applicants must have studied Pakistan Studies & Islamiat/Ethics at the Bachelor's level.
  • A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience is required.
  • Applicants must have a valid registration of all their professional qualifications with the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC).
  • Passing the College's entry test and interview is a must for admission.

Criteria Two

  • Have completed a 4-year Generic BSN Degree Program.
  • Possess 2 years of clinical experience, excluding the 1-year internship.
  • Hold valid registration for all professional qualifications with the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC).
  • Successfully pass the Entry Test & Interview conducted by the College.

  • Admissions closed: Thursday, 8th June 2023
  • Entrance Test: Tuesday, 20th June 2023
  • Commencement of classes: Tuesday, 2nd January



    Post-RN Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Program Duration: 3 Years, Evening Program)


    Eligibility Criteria for Post-RN

    Candidates looking to enroll in the Post-RN Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Shifa College of Nursing must meet the following eligibility requirements:

    • Must have completed Matric with Science in accordance with HEC requirements. The compulsory subjects should be Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
    • Must possess a Diploma in General Nursing.
    • Must possess a Diploma in Midwifery or any other specialty.
    • Must have at least 1 year of clinical experience.
    • Must have valid registration for all professional qualifications with the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC).
    • Must successfully pass the Entry Test & Interview conducted by the College.
    Note: Nurses who have completed a diploma in General Nursing or a 4-year BSN before June 30, 2016, without science subjects in their matric or intermediate may also apply for the Post-RN program.

    Commencement of classes

    • Monday, 1st January 2024 


    BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) - Program Duration: 4 Years


    Eligibility Criteria for BSN

    To be considered for the BSN program at Shifa College of Nursing, potential candidates must meet the following requirements:
    • Must have completed Matric with Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as compulsory subjects).
    • Must have completed FSC (Pre-Medical) with a minimum of 50% marks (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as compulsory subjects) OR Must possess an A-Level Certification accompanied by an equivalent certificate from the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC).
    • Age should be between 17 and 35 years.
    • Must successfully pass the Entry Test & Interview conducted by the College.

    • Admissions closed: Friday, 29th September 2023
    • Entrance Test: Saturday, 14th October 2023
    • Test Time: 09:00 AM
    • Commencement of classes: Monday, 1st January 2024

    Merit-based and need-based sponsorships and scholarships are available from Shifa International Hospital (SIH) and National Endowment Scholarships for Talent (NEST). Shifa International Hospitals Limited (SIH), a Joint Commission International Accredited multidisciplinary tertiary care hospital in Islamabad, offers confirmed employment opportunities upon completion of the BSN degree program.

    Apply online at www.stmu.edu.pk. Submit the Prospectus & Application Processing Fee Voucher of Rs. 4,000/- (for MSN, Post-RN & BSN) and Rs. 5,600/- (for PhD) at any branch of HBL in any city. Candidates are advised to send paid fee vouchers and attested copies of all required documents to the Student Affairs Office before the last date.

    The Pakistan Nursing & Midwifery Council (PNMC) has introduced a new uniform dress code for nurses working in clinical settings across the country.
